Where the hell have I been?

After a longer than usual break, here’s whats been going on…

A. I have a new job out in dallas doing retouching and assisting for a studio photographer. This usually means driving to dallas, which is an hours drive. For a full day, I usually leave around 8am and don’t get back until 8pm.That usually means I’m dead tired by the end of the day and getting into the studio for a few hours has been anything but easy. This new job has been the greatest learning experience and wake-up call thus far for me.

B. I never posted it, but I am doing my internship with photographer Jeremy Sharp every weekend over cheeseburgers. The basic sense of it is that Jeremy is working alongside freelance copywriter Wayne Guyer on creating a coffee table book on Texas Cheeseburger Culture. What does this imply? Basically that every weekend, Jeremy and I have been traveling around the state from odessa to houston and everywhere inbetween to visit over 30 different cheeseburger spots. Jeremy applied the following rules for our project. I started a blog on our adventures, available at the following link:

www.Ihadacheeseburger.tumblr.com

1. The cheeseburgers must be griddle cooked

2. Under no circumstances will there be any “fancy burgers (ie. Smoked swiss with hand picked avocados marinated in goats milk all served on prime rib hand molded patties all served with imported sprouts on a garlic brioche bun…”. The whole idea behind the project is to highlight old school burger places that have history and character behind them, old greasy spoons owned by the same family for lord only knows how long. THIS IS NOT A PROJECT BEHIND WHO HAS THE BEST BURGER.

3. The burgers must be on be served on a normal bun, it can contain sesame seeds (or not).

4. The burger must have AMERICAN CHEESE

5. Besides this it can contain: Onions, mustard (cowboy burger), mayo(Sissy Burger), pickles, lettuce, pickles and special sauce being optional. Thats it. Thats All. Sorry, these aren’t your hipster hotspot late night burger. Oh and ketchup you ask? Yea well, ketchup is for fries…not burgers.

6. Fries and chips are optional. Lets not get too crazy with them people.

C. I’ve been at home the past week with some family business, so I’ve been getting a bit stir crazy to get in the studio. While waiting around, I did decide to build five 4x8 foot fake walls out of drywall and 2x4x8 foot lumber as framing. They’ve worked well so far.

D. I finally fixed my car and its lack of air conditioning. Now I can finally drive around without the windows down when its 108 degrees outside.

E. After all this, I’ve been trying to do some testing in the studio for new photos. The main reasons for lack of new photos is either due to low amounts of money and the fact that Commerce has been completely dead since everyone is gone for summer, so trying to track down a friend to model isn’t easy.

F. I do have a new photo on my website, check it: http://www.nickminton.com
